Sales Calls, Negotiation and Objections

The buyer conversation is a short, structured sale. A retail or wholesale buyer gives you fifteen minutes. In that time they decide whether your product fits their shelf, whether the numbers work at their margin, and whether you will be difficult to work with. It does not resemble consumer selling. You are not creating desire. You are proving you are a low-risk supplier for a category slot the buyer already plans to fill.

The decisions that separate a yes from a polite no are boring. Ask before you pitch: what they stock now, what is underperforming, when the next reset happens. Bring numbers to the first call, not the third, because a buyer who has to chase your price list assumes you are disorganized. Quote one price and hold it. Discounting on the first push teaches the buyer that every later price is negotiable too.

The trap is treating an objection as a cue to persuade harder. A buyer who says the price is too high usually means the margin does not clear their threshold, or the product will not sell fast enough to earn its space. Neither is solved by talking about quality. The second trap is reading silence as rejection. Buyers go quiet because a reset moved, and brands stop following up right before the window opens.

Start with how to run a first discovery call and the question list that goes with it, then the objection guides for price, budget and the brush-off, since those three account for most stalls. Read the negotiation guide before you quote anything. The SPIN, BANT and BATNA pieces are applied to retail deals rather than enterprise software, and the follow-up and re-engagement guides cover the part most brands skip.
